- Story Text: In Madrid, Spain, a traditional street procession is held on 6th January, feast of the Epiphany, or of the Three Kings, as it is better known.
This year the weather was too cold for the usual camels to take part.
The mayor of Madrid greets the Three Kings once the procession is over, and the King distribute gifts.
In Spain, to commemorate the gifts of the original Three Kings to the Infant Jesus, people exchange presented on this feast day instead of on Christmas day.
SYNOPSIS: The Three Kings procession starts with a bang.
Spain is famous for its Good Friday processions, especially in Seville. Not so well known, but no less colourful, and certainly more joyous, is the Three Kings procession in Madrid. In some Latin countries, including Italy and Spain, the giving of presents takes places on the Feast of the Three Kings, not on Christmas Day, as in most countries. This is to commemorate the presentation of gifts to the Infant Jesus by the Magi, or the Three Kings, as they are more generally known.
The humblest and poorest of the poor ming with the great in the Christian tradition. In fact, the shepherds bring their gifts Christmas Day, before the arrival of the Three Kings who were guided by a star the Infant Jesus.
The civil authorities of the city are on hand to greet the rulers of the past. They do this as representatives of all the people, particularly the smallest citizens the children. Children are very much in evidence, not only because they always lo??? pageantry, but also because this is in a special way a children's occasion. It commemorates a Child whom Christians belie??? to be the Son of God.
