- Story Text: A sombre moment of silence was held outside the Dutch embassy on Wednesday (July 23) in tribute to the 298 people who were killed when flight MH17 crashed in an area of eastern Ukraine held by Russian-backed separatists.
A flower-filled memorial outside the embassy bore well-wishing messages and toys laid down by members of the public.
Dutch ambassador Kees Klompenhouwer and embassy staff members walked out of their offices to honour the victims, two thirds of whom were Dutch citizens.
A larger service was held in the Netherlands on Wednesday as the bodies of the first victims from the Malaysian airliner crash arrived amid dignified grief tinged with anger. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
