- Story Text: About 40 relatives and friends of the victims of the Iran plane crash flew from Yerevan to Tehran on Thursday(July 16).
It was not clear whether they would continue to the crash site north of Tehran.
Lusina Mamyan from Yerevan lost her uncle in the crash.
"Our close relative died, he was a doctor, he often came to Yerevan, his children were studying here. He was the husband of my aunt." she said.
Lusina's mother, Zara Mamyan was also waiting:
"Their father was coming to see them (speaking about the doctor's children) and this happened, this tragedy, this tragedy that is awful for everyone who is affected."
The Russian-built Tupolev aircraft was en route to neighbouring Armenia on Wednesday (July 15) when it caught fire in mid-air and ploughed into farmland 16 minutes after departing Tehran.
The Caspian Airlines plane exploded on impact and scattered incinerated metal and the bodies of 153 passengers and 15 crew across a wide area around a deep smoking crater gouged into the ground.
Iranian Press TV's website quoted an official as saying the two boxes, which could contain vital clues to explaining the crash, were heavily damaged but that experts were trying to retrieve data from them.
Most of those on board were Iranians, but there were also Armenian and Georgian citizens. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
