- Story Text: A locomotive yesterday (Tuesday, June 20) began pulling wrecked railway carriages from the Vierzy tunnel in north-eastern France, where at least 100 people died on a head-on collision between two trains last Friday night (June 16). Officials gave the go-ahead to clear the tunnel only after they were certain there was no one else trapped alive in the wreckage. The final toll will not be known until this operation is completed and it may take some days as workers have to be careful no to precipitate a cave-in.
