But she's highly, highly collected. And with a massive fan base. So, but, the fans don't tend to have the money to buy these iconic items, that's what I'm trying to say." - Story Text: Over 300 pieces of Madonna memorabilia will go on display in London on Saturday (February 21).
Called "Simply Madonna", the collection boasts a comprehensive array of costumes, posters, magazine covers and concert paraphernalia from the Material Girl.
One area of the room is dedicated to all things "Evita" -- two mannequins depicting Juan and Eva Peron are seen on a makeshift balcony.
Across it is the collection of costumes that Madonna wore while filming. The Queen of Pop broke Elizabeth Taylor's Guinness World Record for most costume changes in a film.
Ted Owen is the exhibition's curator and head of entertainment memorabilia auctioneers the Fame Bureau.
Owen said the collection represents every stage of Madonna's career.
"Everything here, you couldn't ask for a collection that gives you every aspect of her life, and her fashion. Because she has been like a chameleon, just drops it, and moves on. I mean now she's in, she was in tweeds, but now she's gonna go back to being New York chic, I'm sure you know, there's gonna be another change in her look," he said.
One of the gems of the collection is the pink gown worn by the singer in the pop video for "Material Girl".
Made of up of a pink satin dress with a giant pink bow, matching opera gloves and a white faux fur stole, this dress is scheduled to be auctioned off next month.
Owen estimates the dress to fetch well over 100,000 British pounds (approx. 140,000 U.S. dollars).
Along with the dress, a miniature Madonna doll in exactly the same outfit will also be put up for auction.
This doll was created by Italian doll dressmakers Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi. They also created 12 other dolls specifically for the exhibition.
Another area of the room is dedicated to more of Madonna's outfits, including the baseball uniform she wore for the 1992 film "A League Of Their Own". It also shows what may be one of her funkier outfits, a pink ensemble with trinkets hanging from it -- including a lobster.
"You know I love the coney things because that sort of gives, that's the, that sort of nails Madonna. That's what everyone thinks of Madonna. But I really like the trashy clothing, the 'Ciao Italia'," said Owen.
In one corner of the room are two mannequins representing Madonna and Ali G on stage.
The Madonna mannequin is decked in nearly head-to-toe Versace, the outfit that the star wore in the video for "Music" in 2000.
A miniature doll in the same outfit, also by Magia2000, will be auctioned off in the next month.
The "Simply Madonna" exhibition will be at The Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane until the March 22. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
