Summary:About 1,000 tractors blocked a major highway between the towns of Vaulrus and Rossens in west Switzerland on September 19 as the farmers protested at government plans to cull 230,000 cattle. The Swiss cabinet, which put the culling plan forward, believes it is the best way of eradicating Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known as mad cow disease.
