- Story Text: Star Trek Captain Patrick Stewart has joined the galaxy of celebrities who have received stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Stewart was honoured on Monday (December 16) when a star on the city's Walk of Fame was dedicated to him.
The walkway on Hollywood Boulevard has a series of metal stars embedded in the paving stones named for famous actors. Jack Nicholson had the same honour a week ago.
Stewart, who trained as a classical actor, was awarded the star for his achievements on stage, despite the fact that he is perhaps better known for his film and television roles.
"I'm thrilled," said Stewart. "I know one must keep these things absolutely in perspective, but I look on it as a great honour." He joked about having the title of street theatre performer added to his career resume on the day of the awards ceremony.
Monday's ceremony was pure street theatre, he added.
Co-star Marina Sirtis said no-one deserved the star more than Steward, adding "I'm insanely jealous." Currently Stewart can be seen in the film "Star Trek: First Contact" and on the stage in Los Angeles where he has reprised his one-man "A Christmas Carol".
Stewart performed "A Christmas Carol" for four consecutive sold-out holiday seasons: on Broadway in 1991, 1992 and 1994 and at London's Old Vic Theatre in 1993, where "A Christmas Carol" won an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment.
His film credits include "Excalibur," "Dune," "Hedda," "L.A.
Story," "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" and "Lady Jane." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
