- Story Text: The latest Disney animated adventure, "Mulan", held its UK premiere in London Thursday (October 08) and the Chinese State Circus were on hand to get things off to a flying start..along with a performance by Singapore-born superstar pop violinist Vanessa Mae.
Disney has gone East for inspiration for its latest feature length animation."Mulan" is their interpretation of a 2,000 year old Chinese legend - an epic tale of a girl who disguises herself as a boy and joins the Chinese Imperial Army to fight the invading Huns and save her father from having to go to battle.
The legend of Fa Mulan is as well known in China as the stories of Joan of Arc and Pocahontas in the west.Seven hundred artists took over four years to bring the story to life - even with the help of the latest computer animation techniques which created some breathtaking scenes.
A touch of true Disney-style mischief was contributed by Eddie Murphy who provided the voice for Mushu, a tiny dragon who helps - and hinders - Mulan in her heroic adventures.
At the premiere the audience was treated to spectacular performances by violinist Vanessa Mae and the Chinese State Circus.
The circus show was condensed intowhirlwind fifteen minutes to capture the spirit of Mulan. They will be performing at the Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square, London, for the first week of the film's release, beginning Ocober
They will then take the show all over Europe, supporting the film. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
