- Story Text: Drew Barrymore's latest film, "Home Fries" premiered in Los Angeles on Monday night (November 16).In this romantic comedy Barrymore is 9 months pregnant, and her co-star is real life boyfriend, Luke Wilson.
"Home Fries" is a romantic comedy.
Sally Jackson (Drew Barrymore) takes orders at the window of the local fast food drive-thru, Burger-Matic.Her best customer is Henry Lever (Chris Ellis), a married man, and the father of Jacksons' unborn child.
Despite his pleading, Jackson ended the relationship when she found out he was married. Her lover's two stepsons and his wife know he's been unfaithful, they just don't know who with.
Manipulated by their mother (Catherine O'Hara), Dorian (Luke Wilson) and Angus (Jake Busey), both Army National Guardsmen and Cobra helicopter pilots, decide to scare Henry back into fidelity.
They chase him across the local fields with their helicopter, but go too far and he dies of a heart attack.
On the night it happened, someone was talking over the frequency Dorian and Angus were on and it doesn't take them long to work out that Sally heard the whole thing.
To find out how much she knows, Dorian gets a job at Burger-Matic, but instead of getting rid of her as was originally planned, Dorian falls in love with her.Meanwhile, Angus is determined to eliminate her.
When Sally turns up at Henry's house to set the record straight with his widow, she finds out that Dorian is Henry's stepson and all hell breaks loose.By the time Dorian convinces Sally that he loves her, Angus is on the rampage with the Cobra Helicopter.
He chases Dorian, Sally and his mother in their pickup and orders them out so that he can shoot Sally. His mother gets out, but Dorian refuses to leave his pregnant girlfriend and Angus can't bring himself to shoot his brother.
Playing the part of a pregnant woman in Home Fries "brought out the maternal instincts" in Drew Barrymore, who says "they've really always been there" and she "just can't wait to share all she's learned with her kids"
Co-star Jake Busey was asked to audition for the part of Angus after Barrymore spotted him in a magazine, and sites many reasons for doing the movie, including working with Barrymore. But riding in a helicopter was top of the list.
Busey thought "being able to fly in a military helicopter was the funnest thing he's ever done during a movie and so incredible" he even "became a pilot after they'd finished shooting the movie"
Flying a helicopter wasn't the only thing Busey had to learn. He didn't have brothers or sisters when he was growing up and relied on Luke Wilson (who has three brothers) for tips on how to be a mean, bully brother.
The two became firm friends during the making of "Home Fries".But sometimes when Luke was "kidding around Jake would get a bit sensitive, like his feelings were hurt" and he'd "have to tell him to stop acting like an only child, and remind him that a brother would "take it, absorb it and give it back as hard as he could".
Producer Mark Johnson first became interested in making the film when he read the script ten years ago, and prides himself on "making a romantic comedy that's original and different".
According to Johnson "it's a producer's responsibility to do something different" every time they make a movie. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
