- Story Text: Veteran German rockers The Scorpions teamed up with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for pop meets classic, a one-off performance in the German city of Hannover.
Purists may not like the idea of mixing hard rock tunes with soft classical ballads, but this rock-meets-classic concert by The Scorpions and The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra was a musical treat.
Produced by Christian Kolonowitz, known for his collaboration with The Three Tenors, last week's one-off performance received much critical praise, especially by its audience members.
"I'm not really sure who The Scorpions are and I know Berlin is that way but it was a lot of fun." "It was very nice, very harmonical." "It was a really nice concert, they're both real experts."
Scorpions' leadsinger Klaus Meine said he truly enjoyed the collaboration with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. "I think here it all locked in in the right way and we really enjoyed it and I must say for the whole project we really had a lot of fun working on this album and it was very very inspiring because we had a chance to go off-road with this whole project. It was not just another regular record, it was totally different, a total challenge and we enjoyed it from the first minute and we had to work in a very short time frame because there were studios booked and when you work with an orchestra like the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, it's not like oh we didn't make it, we have to do the recording sessions next month, you have to be right on the spot, to be prepared, music ready and with Christian Kolonowitz, he did a fantastic job. All the credit goes to this guy."
But is there going to be more cross-over music between rock and classic? "I really had fun with this and when we look back on it in a few years' time, I'm sure we'll look at it as a milestone in our career. We will of course stay close to our rock-image but we'll take lots of inspiration away from this collaboration. I hope we'll have a chance in the future to work together again, maybe in Beijing even", says Meine. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
