If, when you were a kid, you had the chance to meet yourself as an adult - do you think you'd be happy with what you see! In the case of Russ Duritz, the answer is a resounding "No!"
Walt Disney Pictures' "The Kid" stars Bruce Willis as a 40-year-old Hollywood image consultant going through a mid-life crisis of sorts, with 8-year-old newcomer Spencer Breslin taking on the role of "The Kid".
The supernatural meeting of man and child creates instant conflict as the elder Russ (Willis) is faced with the childhood he worked all his life to leave behind and the younger Rusty must come to grips with the fact he grows up to be a 40-year-old loser who isn't a pilot and doesn't have a wife or even a dog! Willis reflected on his own childhood dreams in a recent interview with Reuters.
"I think maybe Bruce the kid might not care about success, you know? At eight-years-old, I wasn't really thinking that much about the media or movies or TV or any of that, said Willis.
"I just wanted to go outside and be a kid."
And, what does young Spencer want to be when he grows up? "A police officer. A part time cop and a part time actor, said Breslin. "But, who knows? I could play a role in maybe a TV show for a cop."
For Breslin, "The Kid" is his Hollywood debut. For Willis, it's the second consecutive film in which he matches wits with a minor, a fact he appears to take with a grain of salt.
"My friends all think that it's really cool to work in a movie with Bruce Willis," said Breslin. "But, we really don't have enough time to talk about it because we have to go and play."
"He's a genuine kid. He's a real kid that like to have fun and got to be in a film and act," said Willis. "And, I think he did a really good job in it. But, I think Hollywood and films and children really in general are not that good a mix." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
