- Story Text: After twenty years of recording some of the finest country music there is, Reba McEntire is still going strong.
The two-time grammy award winner has just taken on the role of the legendary sharpshooter Annie Oakley in the Broadway musical "Annie Get Your Gun."
Winning two Grammys and more than 75 music awards, country western singer Reba McEntire's career spans over two decades in the music, film and television industry. This diva is now making her Broadway debut, taking over the role as legendary sharpshooter Annie in "Annie Get Your Gun."
McEntire takes over from actress Cheryl Ladd and says the role gives her the opportunity to combine her two biggest loves, acting and singing.
For Reba, the western role was similar to her own childhood having having grown up in a family of rodeo champs and learning to ride as soon as she could walk.
"I grew up on an 8 thousand acre ranch with one brother and my daddy and mamma and two sisters and we basically would work outside all us girls did all the man's chores along with my daddy and brother and then we came back inside and cooked lunch and then went right back outside and worked with the guys." McEntire said, "So Annie Oakley when her father left had to provide food for the family. We are both kind of survivalists. We are both competitive. We love life and we will jump out on a limb once in a while. With Annie Oakley leaving home and going with the Wild West show. That was a big change for her in her life and I've made a few of those big steps myself" the country star added.
Reba has sold over 40 million records, and her trophy shelf buckles under the weight of her many awards. She's a four time winner of the prestigious "Female Vocalist of the Year"
for the Country Music Association.
But not one to rest on her laurels, she's already planning another release later this year.
"We'll have a greatest hits album out next year, and we've already recorded the songs for that. After that we'll do another album, sure."
The tireless Ms. McEntire will be reappearing on the big screen in February of this year in the film "One Night at McCool's" co-starring Michael Douglas, Liv Tyler and Matt Dillon.
