- Story Text: Film legend Sir Sean Connery accompanied his painter wife Micheline Roquebrune to Greece this week for the opening of an exhibition of her artwork in an Athens gallery.
Charming and petite Micheline Roquebrune, wife of film star Sean Connery, took the show from under her husband's feet this week as the couple opened an exhibition of Roquebrune's paintings in Athens.
Only the third exhibition of her work ever, Roquebrune and Connery arrived at the Athinais gallery in Athens with dozens of journalists in tow.
Roquebrune, a French born, self-taught painter gained great success over the decades with her portrait painting. She decided to stop painting portraits however and paint for herself, adopting other styles. The Athens exhibition is a retrospective of her work over the last 30 years, and Connery is one of her favourite subjects, such as in the painting Man and Cat showing the film star with a cat nestled on his lap.
It is only her third exhibition ever after showing in Washington and Chicago.
Roquebrune said people and human expression are one of her favourite subject matters.
Connery, towering over his petite wife in a simple suit, kept low key as thousands of people visited the gallery to catch a glimpse of the actor.
Connery met Roquebrune during a golf tournament while still married to his first wife Diane Cilento. They have been married now for 31 years.
Roquebrune does not find it difficult or is phased by being married to a man once termed the sexiest man in the world. "I don't think it's difficult at all, I knew what he was doing when I came with him, we fell in love immediately, that was 31 years ago," said Roquebrune, adding, "I saw one James Bond, Dr. No. I thought it was a good movie but, I mean, that's it.
Roquebrune said staying married for so long just depends on what your priorities are. "I love him and I think he loves me," she said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
