The gala began with a screening of "Shall We Dance" followed by the American Foundation for Aids Research (AmFar) charity dinner. This year actress Demi Moore stepped in to host the event as the dinner's traditional patron, Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor, is still recovering from surgery. Moore said she was honoured to be invited to take over the role.Taylor began the event several years ago to raise money for AIDS research, one her favourite causes.
