- Summary: LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (MARCH 22) (REUTERS) SCU (SOUNDBITE) (ENGLISH) MORGAN FREEMAN SAYING I have a huge affinity for the character. I like the intelligence of the character. I like the fact that this guy has all of this going for him, you know, a doctor of forensic psychology, a, gosh, well-trained person doing his job with basic instincts for that calling also. Which means that he's just extraordinary. He's outside the realm of the ordinary. SCU (SOUNDBITE) (ENGLISH) MONICA POTTER SAYING I wanted people to buy the fact that I could actually use a gun, you know? So I really, I was really adamant about training with that and firing it and, you know, and that was scary in and of itself too.

- Story Text: Hoping to recreate the success of "Kiss the Girls" and launch a new film franchise, Paramount Pictures celebrated the World Premiere of the latest Alex Cross mystery "Along Came A Spider" on Monday, April 3 in Los Angeles. Stars Morgan Freeman and Monica Potter attended.
As in the 1997 thriller "Kiss the Girls," Freeman again plays the brilliant and cunning police detective, forensic psychologist and best-seller crime author Alex Cross. The character was first created by writer James Patterson in his best-selling debut novel "Along Came A Spider" and then revisited in the novel "Kiss the Girls."
Although the film series reversed that order, it was still only with major reservations that Freeman agreed to play the same character twice. He's naturally averse to repeating something that worked once, instead preferring to branch out into something new.
But in this case, his affinity for the character along with what he describes as "a nice paycheck" convinced him otherwise.
In the new film, Cross teams up with a secret service agent played by Monica Potter to solve the kidnapping of the daughter of an influential and powerful senator. Character actor Michael Wincott plays the methodical predator, Gary Soneji.
Potter most recently starred in the light romantic comedy "Head Over Heels" with Freddie Prinze Jr. Her other credits include "Patch Adams" with Robin Williams and "Without Limits"
with Billy Crudup.
"Along Came A Spider" was directed by New Zealand-born filmmaker Lee Tamahori, who received worldwide critical acclaim for his feature film directorial debut "Once Were Warriors." Following that, he moved to Hollywood to direct the studio features "Mulholland Falls" and "The Edge" with Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins.
"Along Came A Spider" opens in theaters throughout the United States on Friday, April 6. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
