- Story Text: The saga continues. Putting the public break-up of his relationship with Jennifer Lopez and his acquittal safely behind him, Puff Daddy - or P.Diddy as he's now known - is back on top, with an unexpected new album.
Sean 'P.Diddy' Combs made a surprise appearance at a London venue on Friday (July 6), to announce the release of his third album, 'P. Diddy & The Bad Boy Family ...The Saga Continues...'.
Having spent much of the past year hitting headlines for his 'bad boy' antics - and his high profile romance with Jennifer Lopez (a.k.a. J Lo), Sean Combs said he's putting that draining experience behind him and concentrating on his future.
His latest offering came about by accident he told journalists. Following his acquittal from a New York criminal case, Combs decided to take some time off to reassess his life...he ended up in Miami, Florida.
'This album wasn't planned for me to even make an album or to put out an album, after I went through the trial I went and took some time off and I really just spent time with my family and spent time with myself trying to reassess things and by taking that time off, I'm a hyperactive person - it's like I tried to really lie back and clear my head as much as I could but at the same time, I wanted to do things that were fun to me and making music is like my pride and joy.' After hiring a studio in the evenings, P. Diddy teamed up with a variety of Bad Boy chums who had flown into town to check up on the man himself. Black Rob, Marc Curry, Faith Evans and Mario Winans to name a few ended up jamming with Diddy most nights. The group effort, produced by Combs himself, is a project which combines R&B, hip-hop, funk and even gospel driven by a desire by Combs to draw fans back to the dance floor.
'It's just 14 hot records you know and that's what I think is good about the album A lot of times as artists we make things that are so personal and selfish that we're not just making music to dance to and groove to and that's what it's about, ' Diddy said. But for the artist formerly known as Puff Daddy, it's not just a music career he's pursuing.
As well as managing a multi-million dollar recording business, P. Diddy has his fingers in a few more pies. He recently played the part of an organized crime gang leader in director John Favreau's film 'Made' which goes on general release on July 13.
That's not all. For several years he's been the inspiration behind a hugely successful clothing label, Sean John, named after his son. But now, he's got his eyes on a new range...
'I'm challenging Calvin Klein to who can make the best underwear, so right now I have an underwear line and I have more styles than Calvin. I like to feel that my underwear feels better than Calvin's and they are roomier for the black man so it's a snug fit but it's not as tight. So me and Calvin, we're cool but I think he needs some competition and so we're going to go head-to-head and we're going to put out sexier ads and our underwear is going to fit and look better so Calvin, if you're with the challenge, come holler and look at your foe,' said Diddy.
But whether it's with music, film or fashion, Puff Daddy, Sean Combs, P. Diddy or what ever you want to call him right now is headstrong on success.
His album 'P.Diddy & The Bad Boy Family... the Saga Continues...' is to be released later this month.
