- Title: USA: WORLD PREMIERE OF FILM "AMERICAN PIE 2"
- Date: 27th July 2001
- Summary: LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (JULY 27, 2001) (REUTERS) (SOUNDBITE) (ENGLISH) J.B. ROGERS SAYING OF THE FIRST FILM "The concern was not to try to top it. You know, if people see this movie and they like it better or they think it's funnier, great! But, you get yourself into trouble if you go out and say, we've gotta be funnier! We have to do this, cause then you get into false situations like, you know, let's send our guys to Europe and see how funny that is, cause that's not funny, really. You want to try to keep it real so that was the important thing. Just move it down the road one year. The guys have gone to college for one year, they're coming back, let's see what happens."

- Story Text: Two years after a small teenage ensemble comedy called "American Pie" became the sleeper hit of the summer, the cast and crew of its sequel, appropriately titled "American Pie 2,"
attended its World Premiere in Los Angeles on Monday, August 6 amidst considerably higher expectations.
The higher expectations stem from the fact that the first film, despite a no-name cast and little advance hype, opened with a surprisingly big 19 million dollar weekend back in 1999 and went on to earn more than 100 million dollars in the United States alone. Hoping to recreate that success, Universal Pictures has re-assembled the entire cast of the original and put a new director at the helm, J.B. Rogers, who acted as first assistant director on the original comedy.
"American Pie 2" picks up one year after the end of the previous film when the characters are all returning home after their first year at college. Once again, the story centers on five friends, played by Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Seann William Scott and Eddie Kaye Thomas. After their first year apart at college, the guys rent a beach house, vowing to celebrate their friendship and make this the best summer ever.
But, as always, whether their dreams come true or not is ultimately up to the girls in their life. Once again, Mena Suvari plays Klein's girlfriend Heather, Tara Reid plays Nicholas' now ex-girlfriend Vicky, Natasha Lyonne plays Jessica, the girls' unofficial mother-confessor, Shannon Elizabeth plays the sweet and sexy Czech exchange student Nadia, and Alyson Hannigan plays Michelle, the surprisingly adventurous flute-player who wound up as Jason Biggs' prom date in the first film.
The sole star amongst the adults in the film is "American Pie" alumnus Eugene Levy, who plays Biggs' character Jim's loyal and well-meaning dad, who just happens to have the worst timing possible and barges in on almost every one of his son's sexually embarrassing escapades.
Just as in the first film, "American Pie 2" is filled with plenty of those escapades, including an embarrassing mix-up involving bodily lubricant and crazy glue, which is sure to replace the now infamous scene in the first film where Biggs has sex with an apple pie. To this day, Biggs says he's unable to live that scene down.
