- Story Text: Current Queen of pop, Kylie Minogue, scooped her fourth gong in a fortnight at the 14th World Music Awards in Monaco - but this time around it came with a royal seal of approval.
Often described as the most glamorous music television awards show on the planet, the 14th World Music Awards were held at the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo on Wedneday (March 6).
This year however, the event hosted by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Shaggy and Mark McGrath - failed to attract as many big names as in previous years. Perhaps a reflection of the damp weather, huge stars like Britney and Destiny's Child didn't attend.
But the show which honours the best selling recording artists globally, did offer an eclectic mix of international artists from all corners of the world many of whom performed at the event.
Without doubt the shining stars of the evening were recent multi-Grammy winner, Alicia Keys, the diminutive Kylie Minogue and Latin heartthrob, Enrique Iglesias. Each of whom picked up at least one award.
The true multi-award winner last night however was the show's co-host, Shaggy. He claimed three of the gongs for World's Best Selling Male Artist, World's Best-Selling R&B Artist and Best-Selling American Artist.
Enrique Iglesias walked away with two awards for World's Best Selling Pop Male Artist and World's Best-Selling Latin Male artist beating off competition from former WMA winner Ricky Martin and Mark Anthony.
Kylie, wearing another little Dolce and Gabbana number set hearts racing with a raunchy performance before collecting her award for Best-Selling Australian artist.
Other performers last night included Shakira, who opened the show, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bolton who is about to launch his first album in four years and legendary singer, Gloria Gaynor. At the ceremony, Gaynor - a WMA veteran - was presented with an award for outstanding achievement by the WMA Patron, H.S.H Prince Albert of Monaco. She was thrilled to receive such recognition for her work.
The show is set to air on the ABC network in the United States, the ITV Network in the UK and in more than 150 countries worldwide.
Proceeds from the ticket sales are donated to The Monaco Aide and Presence Foundation.
