- Story Text: The versatile techno punk icon Moby, known for his innovative music, has opened a tea shop in New York called "Teany." Moby joins the new trend of musical celebrities, like Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears, who have also recently opened restaurants of their own.
Techno icon Moby is just another on the list of musical celebrities who are jumping on the restaurant bandwagon, opening up places of their own.
His restaurant called "Teany" on the lower East Side of New York, is a modest little cafe that fits in well with Moby's down to earth image.
Moby tells Reuters that he decided to open a tea shop instead of a night club because he felt that is was a healthier option.
Says Moby, "My partner in this restaurant, her name is Kelly, we were talking last November. We were talking about opening a bar, or a night club or something. And I realised that bars and night clubs, as much as I enjoy them are kind of unhealthy. It seems a lot nicer to open a bright sunny, vegetarian tea shop."
"Teany" comes at a time when other big celebrities are also opening restaurants, but Moby insists his place is unlike any other.
"Obviously there is a big difference between Britney' Spear's restaurant Nyla and my restaurant Teany. I mean Teany is really small. It is not that fancy. It's just a nice simple place in the neighbourhood. And the other big difference is that I don't know how much time Britney really spends in her restaurant. I am here everyday."
Britney Spears opening night of Nyla was a glittering, celebrity packed evening, and the restaurant itself, is an expensive, sleek and chic hangout when compared to Moby's more modest offering, "Teany."
And if fans of Moby are lucky enough, they could end up having a cup to tea with him at "Teany," before he heads out on his big Area2 tour across the U.S.
