- Story Text: Argentina's "Casa Rosada" (Pink House) has temporarily
been turned into a movie set as Spanish actor Antonio Banderas
began filming his latest movie, "Imagining Argentina", in
Buenos Aires.
The Argentine government granted permission for
filming on Saturday (July 20) at the Government Palace for the
movie called "Imagining Argentina".
About 100 fans and onlookers struggled to get a glimpse of
Banderas as he shot different scenes for the film.
"Antonio Banderas is my idol. He is phenomenal,
impressive," said one Brazilian tourist.
The movie will take place in the 1970s in Buenos Aires and
will reference the plan of the regime to eradicate the leftist
guerrillas by means of kidnapping and torture, leaving
thousands of dead and disappeared.
Banderas, who has starred in hit films such
"Philadelphia," "Interview with a Vampire," and "Desperado,"
arrived in the Argentine capital on July 12 and will stay
through August.
The Spanish actor and the English actress Emma Thompson
both star in the movie, directed by Christopher Hampton,
about the last military dictatorship of Argentina.
Banderas will play an Argentine playwright that can
discover, with only a look at the faces of the family members
of the disappeared, the destiny of each one of the kidnap
victims.
But this ability will not help him when the soldiers
kidnap his wife, played by Thompson, who is an opposition
journalist. Thompson is scheduled to arrive in the first week
of August.
Based on the novel of the same title by Lawrence Thorton,
"Imagining Argentina" is a coproduction between Spain and
England.
This will be the third time that Banderas films in
Argentina where he was in "Of Love and Shade" and "Evita."
The filming of the latter marked the last time a movie was
shot at the "Casa Rosada".
