- Story Text: Canadian funny man Jim Carrey stole the night when he unveiled his latest movie - 'The Grinch who stole Christmas' before a right Royal audience - the Queen of England. Carrey jumped on a plane to London to attend the British screening of one of the most highly-anticipated films of the upcoming Christmas holiday movie season. But was Carrey 'in character' for the Grinch.....or 007? Jim Carrey is a master in pulling out masks for his roles.
His latest is "The Grinch", which had his world premiere in Los Angeles last week.
Carrey and partner "Nurse Betty" actress Renee Zellweger flew over to London for the British premiere of the movie and were joined by none other than Queen Elizabeth.
Before meeting her, Carrey admitted he was a bit nervous - in a funny way, of course.
"I'm just trying to be careful not to embarass the country. I don't want to do anything that's story-worthy. I don't want to pull a Jimmy carter and give her a big wet one, " Carrey said.
"I'' try to be cool and basically when they announce me I'll correct them and say no....Bond...James Bond."
The film is based on the hugely popular and beloved children's story written by Theodore Geisel, who wrote under the pseudonym Dr. Seuss.
Since its first publication in 1957, it has enchanted readers around the world and spawned a popular animated television special which airs regularly every Christmas season.
Since Geisel passed away in 1991, his widow Audrey Geisel has carried on the tradition of his classic stories and fended off many offers from Hollywood to turn his tales into big screen movies.
After repeated attempts, she finally said yes to the film-making team of producer Brian Grazer and director Ron Howard.
Their biggest coup was landing Carrey for the central role of the Grinch, a cranky, green fur-covered creature who lives high on a snowy mountain above the placid town of Whoville. He spends all his time hating the Who's and their love of Christmas.
It's a film Carrey enjoyed making, but he says there won't be a sequel : "Never again - no won't happen. I'm not really a sequel guy, I try to move onward and upward and do new things alawys. "
Could that be because of that hairy suit? "You know in my worst nightmare. No, it was so worth it in the end it was but yeah it was tough. But we're moving on, always creating new things, new dishes to 'mange'."
Yes, sounds like the suit had something to do with it. It consists of individual yak hairs sewn on to a lycra spandex suit.
With the combination of the make-up, yellow contact lenses, false teeth and the suit, Carrey was essentially buried alive on a daily basis.
It took three hours each morning to prep him for the day's scenes...
Also in the cast are Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Molly Shannon and young newcomer Taylor Momsen as the citizens of Whoville. Oscar winning actor Anthony Hopkins provides the voice of the film's narrator. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
