Summary:Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santo said on October 27 he would only withdraw his troops from the neighbouring Congo Republic when the situation there has stabilised. Dos Santos sent around 3,500 troops, backed by tanks and fighter planes into the Congo earlier in October to help Denis Sassou Nguessos rebel militia topple the elected government of former President Pascal Lissouba. He was speaking after a one day summit with neighbouring allies, including Sassou Nguesso, at the presidential compound near Luanda. The summit was also attended by Laurent Kabila, leader of the Democratic Republic of the Congo - also helped by Angola in his civil war that unseated Mobuto Sese Seko.
