Uganda: African Leaders End Summit In Kampala With World Bank President James Wolfensohn
- Title: Uganda: African Leaders End Summit In Kampala With World Bank President James Wolfensohn
- Date: 23rd January 1998
- Summary: World Bank President James Wolfensohn and African leaders ended a summit in the Ugandan capital Kampala on Saturday with little sign of any concrete agreements. The African leaders arrived in Uganda on January 23 for a summit aimed at mapping out ways to end wars and secure a better life for Africans in the next millennium. Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni welcomed Wolfensohn and leaders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Senegal, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe left his country on fire after two days of food price riots linked to economic reforms. Analysts said Mugabe could easily argue that sticking to the bank's demands have led to social upheavals on the continent.
