- Story Text: Turkish Defence Minister Turhan Tayan has met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhau in Jerusalem.
Tayan visited Jerusalem's Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial museum on Friday (May 2, 1997) and toured the permanent exhibition commemorating the six million Jewish victims of the Nazi Holocaust during World War Two.
Tayan's visit to Jerusalem is part of the increasing military cooperation between Israel and Turkey, despite Islamist Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan's promise to cut growing security ties to Israel when elected 16 months ago.
Turkey and Israel signed defence cooperation agreements that brought objections from Iran and the Arab world. Israeli planes have flown training flights in Turkey under the accords.
