- Story Text: One of the most anticipated weddings of the year took place on Saturday (November 18) as Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones tied the knot at New York's Plaza Hotel.
Among the celebrities and dignitaries in attendance were Goldie Hawn, Kofi Annan, James Woods and many others.
It was a a celebrity wedding practically made in heaven for star gazers and movie fans as superstar film actor, Michael Douglas and the beautiful actress Catherine Zeta-Jones got married on Saturday (November 18) at New York's plush Plaza Hotel.
An interesting mix of celebrities and dignitaries showed up for the wedding including famed comedian turned sports broadcaster, Dennis Miller who stumbled as he entered the Plaza as the papparazzi cheered.
TV anchor woman, Barbara Walters arrived with her co-host of the popular morning show, "The View", Starr Jones.
From the diplomatic front was United States ambassador to the UN, Richard Holbrooke as well as the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.
Many were surprised to see Art Garfunkel of the well known 60's singing duo, Simon and Garfunkel show up.
Among the better known actors of today that were on the guest list was Goldie Hawn, James Woods and the former Mrs. Steven Spielberg, Amy Irving. Ellen Barkin and her multi billion dollar man, Ron Perlman were in attendance as well.
As far as the bride and groom go, she is the 31 year-old Welsh-born beauty who made it in Hollywood and landed one of Tinseltown's biggest stars.
He is the sexy leading man from an acting dynasty who broke his own rules by forming "a fatal attraction" for an actress who also happens to be 25 years his junior.
According to one fan waiting for the celebrity arrivals, "Well he's pretty famous and she's pretty beautiful so yeah, it's a good match I'd say."
The wedding -- three months after the media fanfare over the birth of their baby Dylan -- is supposed to be a private affair in the grand eloquence of the Plaza Hotel in New York.
Some may talk about fairy tale romance, but professional celebrity watchers see cash registers before their eyes.
Few details of the ceremony are known. But the pages of popular newspapers and magazines are crammed with a mixture of leaks, tidbits and speculation ranging from the guest list and the cost of the wedding dress to analyses of the couple's handwriting and details of their prenuptial agreement.
Even Michael Douglas -- a man accustomed to the celebrity spotlight of a famous father, a divorce, and a spell in rehab for alcohol addiction -- is astounded and alarmed by the attention.
The wedding, a culmination of a 20-month romance between the "Wall Street" star and the raven-haired temptress of "Entrapment," appeals to all the basic instincts of celebrity journalism.
The couple, who share the same September 25th birthday, met at a film festival in France in August, 1998, began dating in March, 1999 and got engaged last New Year's Eve. The newlyweds will be appearing together soon in movie theatres around the country in a film entitled, "Traffic."
