- Story Text: Palestinian President Yasser Arafat arrived to a red-carpet welcome in Vietnam on Wednesday (June 19) as part of his Asia-wide tour.
Arafat held talks with President Le Duc Anh in Hanoi's Presidential Palace.
Officials did not disclose the nature of the talks, but informed sources said economic and trade matters topped the agenda, along with possible cooperation in the military field.
On Thursday (June 20) Arafat met Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet for top-level talks.
Arafat, a long-time ally of Hanoi, is making his sixth visit to Vietnam since 1970.
Arafat has just wound up a visit to China where he issued an appeal for international help to ensure Israel's compliance with the Middle East Peace Agreement.
Arafat will meet with Vietnam's top official, Communist Party chief Do Muoi, later on Thursday before departing.
