- Date: 9th February 1999
- Summary: Following the death of King Hussein of Jordan his son, King Abdullah, and widow, Queen Noor received words of comfort and promises of assistance on February 9 from members of the public. Large crowds of sympathisers queued up for hours to see King Abdullah and pay their respects in the Raghadan Palace. Hussein's body was buried in a grave at the Hashemite family cemetery in the grounds of Amman's main compound of royal palaces. His 37-year-old eldest son Abdullah, sworn in as king on February 7 some three hours after Hussein's death, stood stiff and silent, head bowed, as the public walked by. NOTE: Date is approximate.
