Summary:An Olympic Airlines passenger jet on a flight from Preveza in northern Greece made an emergency landing at Athens airport on September 12 when the pilot reported a fault with the landing gear. None of the 57 passengers on board was injured. Dozens of fire trucks were put on emergency standby and the runway was sprayed with foam before the plane made a final approach. The pilot succeeded in bringing the aircraft down on its belly as sparks flew up from the tarmac. The passengers used chutes to escape.
