- Story Text: Khmer Prime Minister Long Boret returned over the weekend from New York where he successfully led his government's delegation in the United Nations General Assembly debate on the Khmer Republic.
The Assembly narrowly voted against a Chinese-sponsored resolution to oust the representatives of the government of President Lon Nol in favour of the government-in-exile of Prince Norodom Sihanouk.
Mr. Boret was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sothi at an airport ceremony attended by cabinet ministers, diplomats and representatives of various civilian organisations.
A notable absentee was the US ambassador, John Gunther Dean, who left Phnom Penh several days before and is believed to have met Mr. Boret in Honolulu.
The Prime Minister made a short speech of thanks at the airport and said a full statement would be issued later.
