- Story Text: Siberian fitness lovers braved the freezing temperatures of Lake Baikal on Saturday (March 11) dressed only in swimming gear.
As friends and supporters were wrapped up in winter coats to protect themselves from the minus ten centigrade temperature, race participants slipped off their clothes and slid away.
Women wore bikinis and men took part in swimming shorts and trunks as they raced across 500 metres of frozen ice which covered the world's deepest lake.
The race was part of the Baikal Marathon Skating 2017, an annual event which brings together sports enthusiasts from around the region.
After finishing the event many of the participants were celebratory.
"We simply decided to take part to test our strength. Awesome! I advise it to everyone," said participant Svetlana Trofimchuk. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
