- Story Text: 50 Cent brought his blend of "bling" and "gangsta rap" to downtown Beirut on Saturday (June 10, 2006) furthering the city's reputation as a hot spot for hip hop and dance music.
The concert organized by the local Radio One radio station looks likely to be one of the biggest cultural events of the summer in Lebanon
50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson, galvanized the crowds with songs like "Candy Shop", "Window Shopper" and "In the Club", accompanied by the rapper G-Unit. Some fans could barely conceal their excitement.
"The best concert ever, there is no better concert" said one young 50 Cent fan.
Popular Lebanese singer Haifa Wehbe got things off to an energetic start. Music composer Guy Manoukian also performed.
"The concert is great especially that not only 50 Cent performed at it but also Haifa Wehbe and Guy Manoukian too. It's the first time that a rapper like 50 Cent comes to Lebanon where 15, 000 people attended the concert. It was great," said Maya Eid. The hope is that the success of events like Saturday's 50 Cent concert will encourage more European and Western artists to perform in Lebanon. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
