  • Story Text: President Anwar Sadat's Adviser for National Security Affairs, Mohammed Hafez Ismail, left Cairo, Egypt for the Soviet Union on Wednesday (11 July) for talks with Soviet leaders.

    Before leaving, Mr. Ismail told reporters at the airport that the Soviet government had requested a visit from a senior Egyptian official "to be informed about the results at the Washington (U.S.-- Soviet) summit last month, particularly with regard to the Middle East.

    Egypt and the Soviet Union are linked by a friendship treaty signed in May 1971.

    Mr. Ismail is expected to remain in Moscow until Saturday (July 14). This is his second visit to the Soviet Union this year.

    SYNOPSIS: Mr. Mohammed Hafez Ismail, Adviser for National Security Affairs to Egypt's President Anwar Sadat, gave a press conference at Cairo airport on Wednesday shortly before he left for the Soviet Union for talks with Soviet leaders.

    Egypt and the Soviet Union are linked by a friendship treaty, signed in May 1971.

    The treaty will be one of the topics which Mr. Ismail will discuss with his Soviet counterparts. This is his second visit to the Soviet Union this year, and he is expected to remain in Moscow until the end of this week.
