SYNOPSIS: In a ceremony at the Chadian capital, Fort Lamy, on Wednesday, Pakistan's new representative in Chad, Ambassador Ashani, presented his credentials to President Francois Tombalbaye.
President Tombalbaye, who has acquired a reputation among African diplomats as one of the major French-speaking African statesmen, is keen to develop relations with other third-world nations. Presenting his credentials, Ambassador Ashani promised to develop closer relations between Chad and Pakistan. In reply, President Tombalbaye said their relations were oriented towards the peaceful-co-existence of nations, big or small, as according to the United Nations charter.
Ambassador Ashani also reminded President Tombalbaye that Pakistan aligns itself with the Arab cause in the Middle East problem. Chad, which also aligns itself with the Arab nations, broke off diplomatic relations with Israel last November.
