- Story Text: Fans of legendary British rockers the Rolling Stones waited for hours outside Buenos Aires' Four Seasons Hotel on Monday (February 20), hoping to catch a glimpse of the band's frontman, Mick Jagger.
The group's guitarists Keith Richards and Ron Wood and drummer Charlie Watts had already arrived in Argentina on Sunday (February 19), fresh from a massive free concert in Rio de Janeiro. Jagger had stayed on in Brazil to spend time with his son Lucas, born from a liaison with Brazilian model Luciana Gimenez.
Fans were treated to a few fleeting appearances of the Stones musicians as they waited for the charismatic singer to appear. For die-hard fans like Juan Jose Banegas, who refer to themselves as Stones, it was an opportunity of a lifetime to see the band live.
"I'm a major fan. The truth is, it's a madness, it's a passion. But it's something that you carry inside you, it's something special that you can't tell someone, that only a 'Stone' knows," he explained.
Fellow 'Stone' Edgardo was equally enthused. "It's a dream for us that the Stones are here. We waited for a long time. We already went to see Keith Richards as a soloist, when he came here in 1992, and now we are here waiting for Jagger to arrive," he said.
And the fans were not disappointed. The English frontman finally arrived at the Four Seasons' Hotel in a minivan, and took a moment to wave to fans before disappearing inside the hotel where the band will be staying during their time in Buenos Aires.
The band will play two sell-out shows in Buenos Aires' River Plate stadium, on Tuesday (February 21) and Thursday (February 23). It's the group's third time to play in Argentina over the course of a long career as one of the genre's seminal bands.
Fans began queuing early for the first show on Tuesday (February 21) despite the hot summer weather, eager for a glimpse of their idols.
The legendary rockers have been playing across the United States on the "Bigger Bang" tour and performed at the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 4.
The "Bigger Bang" album, hailed by critics as their best in years, recently won a Grammy award. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
