- Story Text: Mexican hearththrob Luis Miguel, accustomed to appearing before the excited screams of thousands of fans, appeared before a judge in an Argentine court on Tuesday (November 9) to defend one of his songwriters against plagiarism charges.
Argentine composer Francis Smith accused song writer Ignacio Cibrian of stealing his music and presenting it as his own work in a case of plagiarism against the song writer and its producer.
Smith claims he is the original writer of the popular ballad "Nothing is the Same", produced by famed Mexican singer Luis Miguel and written by Cibrian according to the record label company Warner Music in Argentina.
In a lawsuit initiated two years ago, Smith charges that Cibrian copied the tune from a song he wrote for an Argentine artist.
Miguel, who had to make a court appearance in Buenos Aires while on tour in South America, maintains the material is original. He left the courthouse on Tuesday (November 9) after his testimony without making comments to the press - flashing a smile to the throng of Argentine women who gathered outside the courthouse to catch a glimpse of the star. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
