- Story Text: The Silver Trophy of "Miss World", a GBP500 prize and a Nobel 200 car went to 21-year-old Norma Cappagli - "Miss Argentina" - in the finals of the international beauty contest at London's Lyceum, Nov. 8. Her vital statistics: 36-23-36; height 5 ft 7 inches.
Runner-up to the black-haired girl from Buenos Aires was "Miss Israel", 20-year-old Gila Golan, a war orphan from Poland, now living as a secretary in Tel Aviv. Measurements: 36-23-35; height 5 ft 7 inches. Miss Golan also received a Nobel 200 car, and a GBP100 prize.
Third in the contest was "Miss South Africa" - a 19-year-old oil company clerk who is interested in dog training. Her name is Denise Muir and her vital statistics are: 36-24-36; height 5 ft 7« inches. Hers was a money prize of GBP75.
Fourth place was taken by "Miss Germany", 18-year-old Ingrun Moeckel from Duesseldorf - the only blonde among the first five, and with 5 ft 10 the tallest of them. She is a fashion model and student of music. Her prize money was GBP60.
"Miss USA" - 18-year-old Vivian Driggers from Charleston, South Carolina - brought up the rear with fifth place and GBP50. She is a model with stage ambitions and gained the beauty title in her own country after the original winner was disqualified.
Of 18 quarter-finalists - three more than originally scheduled - the contestants of Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, India, Kenya, Norway, Rhodesia and Sweden did not reach the semi-final. The five unlucky semi-finalists came from Brazil, Ireland, Italy, Korea and the UK.
