- Story Text: About five hundreds people disguised in zombies paraded in the streets of the European capital on Saturday (April 10) to mark the start of Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF).
Professional make-up artists were invited to transform movie fans into ugly and scary zombie-like creatures with fake scars, red liquid dripping and various organs all out in the open.
The movie fans in disguise shocked and amused passers-by in the historic city centre.
People playing victims had been hiding along the parade and fake zombies chased them with the hunger of those who hadn't eaten fresh blood for days. A real-life role-play.
For the occasion even the Manneken Pis, the little urinating boy fountain that is among Brussels' top sightseeing attractions, had been dressed up as the most famous vampire ever, Dracula. The organisers of the festival said they got the idea for a Drakulen-Pis in 1987 when British actor Christopher Lee attended the festival.
There was no better place to eat yet another victim.
Xavier Hanssens, a printer and fan of fantastic movies, carried a fake head all along and said he would love to look like it.
''This is it. If one day I can have the same face as he does I will be happy !'' Hanssens said.
Max Tilkens, another movies fan, had a few thoughts about zombie's life and status in the society.
''It's great to become a zombie for fun but to be dead isn't that much fun because you have eat brains every day and people do not want you to eat their brains so real life is better after all. But to be a zombie once in a while is fun,'' Tilkens said.
The BIFFF screen dozens of fantastic movies over twelve days, with a special section for Japanese animation and a sci-fi, fantasy and manga market.
Other events of the BIFFF include a vampire's ball and body-painting contest. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
