- Story Text: Hundreds of soccer loving fans turned up to see the FIFA 2010 World Cup Trophy at the Vaal University of Technology in Johannesburg on Thursday (June 3) .
There was tight security with a bomb squad sweep of the area before the trophy arrived and police with sniffer dogs monitoring the area during the display.
As on other occasions when the trophy has been shown around the world, fans were offered the opportunity to pose for photographs next to it.
The mayor of Emfuleni Municipality said how proud the area was to be chosen to display the trophy.
"We are really pleased that we had this opportunity," said said S.A. Mshudulu. "We believe that the our experience will go even beyond our term in terms of the future of the province, I must say thanks to the MEC for the Premier Nomvula Mokonyane to have put us as Emfuleni and the district Sedibeng on the world map by ensuring that the cup comes to our area."
The six kilogram gold trophy, which has been on tour across the world, will now stay in South Africa to be presented to the winning team on July 11.
The next stop for the trophy tour will be in Soweto on Friday (June 4), where more people are expected to view it as it will be on display for most of the day. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
