- Story Text: Argentina and Mexico fans head for Soccer City in Johannesburg for their second round World Cup clash.
Argentina and Mexico fans headed for Soccer City in Johannesburg, South Africa on Sunday (June 27) for their World Cup second round match which will decide who plays Germany in the quarter-finals.
Argentina have been rapidly emerging as one of the favourites of the tournament after three wins in the group stage. Diego Maradona's side now take on Mexico, who they beat 2-1 at the same stage in the 2006 World Cup, where they also went on to meet Germany in the quarter-finals to whom they lost after a penalty shoot-out.
Many of the fans heading for the stadium are expecting an Argentine win, but one local will be cheering for the underdog.
"We're supporting the underdog, we think Argentina are gonna win. I think they're gonna win 2-1 but we'll support Mexico, they seem like a fun crowd and go Mexico," said Alistair from South Africa.
"Well, we're here, very happy to be in South Africa, people are very hospitable with us and we expect to win the Cup, we'll win 3-1, with goals from Messi, De Michelis and Palermo. Palermo!" said Pablo from Argentina.
"About the match? I'm a bit worried about the match but at the same time excited," said another Argentine fan Herman.
"For me, I think Argentina will win 2-0, of course of course," said Daniella, also supporting Argentina.
One Mexican fan, Fernando Rivera, was optimistic that his team might be able to pull off an upset.
"It will be great if we can win, we have to score and the score I believe will be 2-1. Argentina have good strikers, they're going to score for sure, but we're going to have to score twice to win the game," he said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
