- Story Text: Some of Europe and Africa's greatest soccer legends are gathering in South Africa to play a game in aid of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.
Renowned World Cup stars such as Ruud Gullit, Hristo Stoitchkov and Michael and Brian Laudrup were amongst the players who took time out to conduct coaching clinics in Soweto on Thursday (January 5). Players from both the European and African teams are expected to meet former South African president Nelson Mandela during a lunch on Saturday.
The European team will be coached by former World Cup star Johan Neeskens, who is widely recognised as one of the five best players produced by the Netherlands. Neeskens has indicated his team will not be taking the occasion lightly. The African side will be coached by Jomo Sono, with Augusto Palacios as his assistant.
Due to join the Europeans in South Africa on Friday were such African "greats" are Liberia's former world player of the year George Weah, Ghanaian Abedi Pele and Cameroon star Roger Milla. Top South African players of the past decade, Lucas Radebe, Mark Fish, Phil Masinga and Doctor Khumalo, are also expected to play at Ellis Park on Saturday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
