- Story Text: Pregnant Australian actress Nicole Kidman says that she knows her unborn baby's gender but keeps it secret at a red carpet event for her latest movie "Golden Compass" in Tokyo.
The five-month pregnant Australian actor Nicole Kidman said Thursday (February 21) that she knew whether her unborn baby was a boy or a girl but did not want to make it public.
"I don't know....., I know. But I am not saying," she said at a red carpet event in Tokyo when asked by Reuters whether it was a boy or a girl.
She was in Japan to promote her latest big-budget fantasy film "The Golden Compass" with director Chris Weitz and newcomer actress Dakota Blue Richards who beat off 10,000 girls to play the film's central role of Lyra.
The Oscar-winning actress appeared radiantly before hundreds of fans and reporters wearing a tight white and shelve-less Balenciaga evening gown despite the chilly Tokyo night. Though asking questions to her on a red carpet was tightly prohibited by the organizer in consideration of her condition, she responded willingly to the fan requests, signing autographs and shaking hands with the bedazzled crowds who had waited for hours to get a passing glimpse of her.
Director Chris Weitz was also dazzled by Kidman's glamous appearance.
"I think she is doing very well, you know, she looks extraordinary thin for a pregnant lady but she is in a good shape, and I think, good spirit," said director Chris Weitz, referring to pregnant Kidman.
Kidman's "The Golden Compass", an adaptation of Philip Pullman's novel "Northern Lights", has been an international hit with worldwide sales to date of about 300 million US dollars.
Kidman, 40, has been pregnant once before with then-husband Tom Cruise but suffered a miscarriage. Kidman and Cruise adopted two children, Isabella and Connor. She later remarried New Zealand-born country music singer Urban.
In early 2008 Kidman was due to start filming the post-World War Two drama "The Reader", directed by Stephen Daldry who made "The Hours" which won Kidman her 2003 best actress Oscar.
But she withdrew from "The Reader" due to her baby expected around mid-2008. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
