- Story Text: The world of Narnia returns with the cast and director of "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian", the latest adaptation of the classic C.S. Lewis series, arriving for the Tokyo premiere of the film on Tuesday (May 20).
"Prince Caspian" is the third book in the series by the famous author.
Hundreds of fans lined up outside the theatre on Tuesday to get a glimpse of the young stars, who took their time as they signed autographs and talked to reporters along the red carpet.
The red carpet was painted green to make the film appeal as a tool for education on nature protection.
Actors Ben Barnes and William Moseley (playing Peter) and actress Georgie Henley (playing Lucy) and director Andrew Adamson attended the Japanese premiere of the new 'Narnia' film.
British newcomer Barnes, who plays the lead role of Prince Caspian, said he was impressed by the enthusiasm of the Japanese fans compared to the film's New York premiere earlier this month.
"There was no fans really in the States. There was a very long press line, I just moved along the line. This is unbelievable, it is unbelievable the reaction here. I can't quite get over it," Barnes told Reuters.
Actor William Moseley, who plays the eldest sibling Peter in the film, was also impressed by Tokyo's warm welcome and confessed that he would like to appear in Japanese samurai films in his career in future.
"I really like samurai films. I really like a lot of samurai films. I've always wanted a samurai sword since I was a child so that would be cool, to have a samurai film," Moseley said.
Walt Disney's "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," the second film in a series based on the "Narnia" books by C.S. Lewis, opened at No.1 with estimated three-day sales of USD 56.6 million in North America.
However, the film fell short of expectations at the box office as industry analysts had expected an opening in the USD 80 million range, and certainly a figure above the USD 65.6 million start for the film's 2005 predecessor, "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe."
