- Story Text: Japanese pastry chef and jewellery decorator presents a cake covered with platinum ornaments valued at 15 million yen (1,300 US dollars).
It would be an invigorating treat for stressed-out women to receive their favourite confectionery and jewellery at the same time, so thought one jeweller in Japan, who decided to give it a try.
A pastry chef and a jewellery decorator collaborated on Thursday (September 6) to produce a cake decorated with platinum ornaments priced at 15 million yen (1,300 USD) in Tokyo.
Most of the cake, including the platinum foils placed on top, are edible and the inedible parts can be worn as a necklace or a hair pin.
"While making this cake, I was very nervous because this is the first time I had decorated a gorgeous cake with such a large number of platinum. But it was a lot of fun," said Nobue Ikura, a jewellery decorator who also helped make the cake.
The platinum cake was made as a promotion to entice female consumers in buying some of the jewellery.
"I think platinum and a white cake is the best possible combination as a present for women because both have the same colour of white, which is said to have pureness and brightness that lasts forever and I believe women who get them will acquire the same amount of pureness and brightness," said Mikiko Ichikawa, public relations manager at Platinum Guild International.
The organiser of the cake event added that they do not yet have plans to sell the cake.
The cake was later dedicated to Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi, who was nominated for this year's best supporting actress at America's Academy Awards, model Chie Kumasawa and other women in various fields awarded by the organisation. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
