- Story Text: More than 13,000 soccer fans packed into a stadium near Toyyo to watch Japan take on Netherlands in the World Cup in Durban on Saturday (June 19).
After their victory over Cameroon in the first match, hopes were high for Japan but a secon half goal from Wesley Sneijder gave Netherlands a 1-0 win which puts them top of qualifying group E.
But with three points in the bag for the Cameroon victory, the supporters were still hoping to qualify for the knockout stages in their final group match against Denmark on Thursday June 24.
"There's still the match with Denmark and so I hope they keep fighting in better form and learn from the mistakes from today's match to use in the next game," said actress Taisho Fukui.
"The team played well, but losing is somewhat heartbreaking," said sales clerk Shoko Ishikawa.
"They still have enough ability to score points," added electronics company employee Hiroshi Kawasaki.
The Netherlands will now be the first nation to qualify if Cameroon do not beat Denmark in their match later on Saturday (June 19). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
