Top hair salons from Japan and South Korea gathered in Tokyo to showcase their latest hair colouring and styling techniques at the Splash International 2009 - one the largest hair colouring shows in Asia, on Tuesday (March 3).
Models strutted down the runway in a wide range of hair colours and outfits as they highlighted the stage.
Park Jun, one of the most popular hair stylists in South Korea, wowed the Japanese audience with futuristic styles with multiple twists, curls and colours.
"It was my first time seeing a Korean hair style, but it was very powerful," Ren Hori, 40-year-old Japanese hair stylist, told Reuters.
"I think fashion is a good way for Japan and Korea to build up a friendly relationship," he added.
Many young hair stylists, who flocked to the show to see their colleagues and competitors, said the show was inspirational in many ways.
"It's great to see a range of expression. Now I want to try new styles at my own salon," said Maki Ito, a 29-year-old start-up hair stylist in Tokyo.
Fashion-savvy students also filled up the audience as they remained glued to the latest techniques.
"It was very refreshing to see new styles with my own eyes,"
said Ritsuko Kao, 23, a fashion student hoping to join one of Tokyo's top salons in the future.
"I usually read fashion magazines to study, but I really got a hands on learning today."
Hair salons across Japan joined together to start the show in 1999 in hopes to make the event a learning opportunity for the aspiring hair stylists across the nation.
Now into its 11th year, the annual show has attracted top salons and guests from all across Asia. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
