American pop music queen, Madonna, began her first live concert tour in two year, in spectacular style near Tokyo, Japan on Friday (April 13).
More than 34,000 Japanese fans turned out in steady rain to see the 31-year-old singer launch her "Madonna Blond ambition World Tour 90." All her Japanese concerts had sold out within days of the tickets going on sale, earning the star 37 million US dollars just from the Japanese leg of her tour.
As on her last world tour, the pony-tailed star performed wearing several bodice-like undergarments called basques, suspenders and black tights. At one stage during the two-hour concert, Madonna leapt on a bed to belt out one of her hits.Among the best received numbers was 'Vogue' from Madonna's new film 'Dick Tracy'.It's her 20th consecutive song to make it into the top of the charts.
Residents near the open-air Chiba Marine Stadium, 33 kilometres (21 miles) outside Tokyo, complained about the noise.Local police said they received some 50 complaints from people living near the newly opened stadium. Some of those complaining asked if the sound could be turned down.
The show won generally favourable reviews from newspaper critics. After Japan, Madonna heads for a 24-date tour of the United States.
