- Story Text: Representatives of the seven nation Union of African news agencies met in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa last Wednesday (April 29) to lay the ground for the setting up of a new all-African news agency. To be known as PAN AFRICAN NEWS AGENCY (PANA) it will be staffed entirely by Africans and will deal mainly with African news.
The conference was arranged by the Organisation of African Unity which has its seat in Addis Ababa. The Ethiopian Information Minister, Mr. Gatachev Mekasha was principal speaker at the opening of the conference. He said Africa would be better served when the continent's news was compiled and disseminated by Africanas for Africans.
The Union of African News Agencies is made up of Algeria, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Congo Kinshasa, Ivory Coast and Cameroun.
