- Title: Pakistan: Female Pilots Inducted Into Pakistan Air Force For The First Time
- Date: 30th March 2006
- Summary: March 30, 2006, became a landmark for the Pakistan Air Force with the passing out of the services first four female pilots. Nadia Gul, Saba Khan, Mariam Khalil and Saira Batool made history when they were among 36 cadets to receive their wings at the PAF Academy at Risalpur after 42-months of intense training. Posing for the cameras with her fellow female cadets, Flying Officer Gul said she had always wanted to do something different with her life and always wanted to join the Defence Forces. Flying Officer Gul had an additional reason to be proud of her accomplishments after winning the prestigious Trophy for Excellence earned for academic achievement during her course. In 2002, the Pakistan Air Force went through a major change and, for the first time, enrolled female cadets on its aerospace engineering and fighter pilot programmes. According to figures given by the PAF, female officers in the Engineering, Medical, Air Traffic Control, Logistics and Administration branches formed 5% of the total strength of Pakistan's air force, but there had been no female flying officers. During the training, the female cadets had to go through rigorous general service training, military education and strenuous flight training in jet aircraft. WARNING:LOCAL MUSIC LICENCES MAY APPLY.
