- Story Text: Beyoncé Knowles isn't shy when it comes to performing - but she had to muster up her courage to pose for the cover of this year's Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
The superstar cover model and her fellow co-horts premiered the magazine at a the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday (February 14) evening.
"We knew it was going to be a swimsuit edition so at first I was ok is this the right thing to do? But my memory of all the Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions were beautiful women, elegant, sexy but very classy. So I thought this is great as long I have a photographer that I feel comfortable with Cliff Watts, who I worked with and they were happy to do that, my mother designed the swimsuits so they are things that I feel comfortable in and it was so great. Such a great experience it was one of the best photo shoots I have ever done," Beyonce told Reuters.
Making the Sports Illustrated cover for the annual top-selling issue propels the singer into an elite class of models whose ranks include Christie Brinkley, Elle Macpherson, Rachel Hunter, Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks.
The 25-year-old "Dreamgirl" is the first non-model to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimwear issue, which hits news-stands this week
"Beyonce I can only say she is beautiful and she has a great cover I think she is the perfect choice for this years' Sports illustrated cover because it is a music issue. She is a great artist and she is sexy," said Bar Refaeli, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model and girlfriend of actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
Beyonce is enjoying the success of her film "Dreamgirls" which leads the pack in Oscar nominations, plus she won her 10th Grammy of her career less then a week ago.
Next on the horizon for the singer is the simultaneous English and Spanish rereleases of her hit album "B'Day" scheduled for April
The Spanish version will have five bonus tracks, including duets with Shakira and Alejandro Fernandez.
"Shakira I love her I mean so sweet so genuine such an artist. It was amazing because we do a lot of things very similar but very different and we kind of played on our similarities in the video. So sometimes you look but you don't know who is who and we do this amazing dance break at the end. I can't wait for everyone to see it," Beyonce said before going into the party. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
