- Story Text: Filmmaker Charles Ferguson's powerful documentary 'No End In Sight' is blunt and straightforward in its examination of what went wrong in Iraq.
"To be blunt, if the 'Three Stooges' had run a war, they would have done a much better job," explained Ferguson. "It's utterly astonishing that the leadership of the most powerful nation in the world so mismanaged a war that it destroyed a government and plunged a country into chaos and anarchy."
'No End In Sight' is the first film to examine the Bush Administration's plan for the Iraq war and its subsequent occupation. Ferguson uses interviews with an array of high level officials, military personnel and journalist in trying to reconstruct what went wrong. The subsequent verdict by the film is that chain of critical errors, denial and incompetence is to blame for the current quagmire of violence.
"I think it is essential," said Ferguson, of the importance of the festival providing a venue for the film. "This is not a film I made for my 25 policy one friends. This is a film that I made because I want a very large number of people, the community at large, the population of the United States, to understand what happened in this war in the occupation of Iraq."
While the filmmaker believes that the recent elections in the United States will result in a policy shift on Iraq, Ferguson is unsure whether it is too late to help.
"We can hopefully manage the disaster to keep it from becoming as bad as it could be, but is already very bad, with something like a quarter-of--a-million people being killed and it isn't going to get any better," said Ferguson.
